Jewish community Chabad Lubavitch Moldova

The deputy mayor of Ashdod Baruch Glimeran paid an official visit to the Jewish community in Kishinev.

The visit began at the office of the Chabad emissary Rabbi Zalman Abelsky, Chief Rabbi of Moldova, where the two discussed Jewish community life in the capital, Kishinev, was well as in more outlying areas. They also spoke about Moldovan immigrants to Israel, many of whom live in Ashdod, home to the organization “The Federation of Moldovan Immigrants in Israel.” Rabbi Abelsky also took this opportunity to speak to the deputy mayor about the Lubavitcher Rebbe.

The deputy mayor was very interested in hearing about the situation of the Jews in Moldova, and he received a brief summary of Chabad activities in the country and the various Jewish needs that are supplied. He was also very impressed by a copy of the Jewish magazine Mayanot Hachaim, its level of Jewish content, and its fascinating explanations of subjects such as the Final Redemption. He also noted the magazine’s quality presentation and its high level of distribution – 6,000 copies throughout Moldova. The magazine even has subscribers from abroad, many of whom are Jewish immigrants from Moldova and its capital, Kishinev.

The mayor ended the visit with a fond farewell, and he wished his host much success in his continued activities with Chabad institutions in Kishinev and the Jewish communities around the country, as well as in the area of Transnistria-Friedenstrobia.
